Laboratorio de Ecología Acústica en México (Acoustic Ecology Lab in Mexico)

LEAM

Who we are
Founded and directed by composer Tania Rubio since 2020, the Acoustic Ecology Lab in Mexico (LEAM) represents an innovative fusion of artistic and scientific disciplines. At LEAM, artists and biologists collaborate to investigate, reflect upon, and create art centered on the intricate relationships between sound and the environment. By bringing together diverse expertise, the laboratory transcends conventional boundaries, blending scientific rigor with artistic expression to explore ecological themes through sound. LEAM has actively engaged with communities in Mexico, offering workshops, lectures, concerts, and residencies in states such as Guanajuato, Mexico City, Morelos, and Yucatán. This national focus reflects LEAM’s commitment to making acoustic ecology accessible, relevant, and resonant within varied cultural and ecological contexts. Internationally, LEAM has extended its influence to Germany, where events in Frankfurt and Berlin have invited broader dialogue and exchange, connecting Mexico’s unique soundscapes with the global acoustic ecology community. The core mission of LEAM is to foster environmental sound art at the intersection of art and science.

To achieve this, LEAM operates through five guiding principles:

Education, Research, Creation, Production, and Dissemination.
